“Fourscore and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.”
Kirk Douglas
I painted this digital portrait of one of my favorite actors from Hollywood’s golden era, Kirk Douglas (as Vincent Van Gogh in the film, “Lust For Life”).
This is my attempt to paint In the style of the artist he portrayed.
“The biggest spur to my interest in art came when I played van Gogh in the biographical film Lust For Life. The role affected me deeply. I was haunted by this talented genius who took his own life, thinking he was a failure.”
– Kirk Douglas
Harriet Tubman
“I was conductor of the Underground Railroad for eight years, and I can say what most conductors can’t say – I never ran my train off the track and I never lost a passenger.”
Harriet Tubman

Farewell, Kobe . . .

Anne Frank

“ He makes His sun rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.”

Martin Luther King Jr. Day, 2020: “I Have A Dream”
I painted this portrait of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. a few years ago for a friend and it reminds me of the fact that he had a dream . . .
“I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.’”
– Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Vietnam Veteran: Bennett Traylor, USAF (Ret.)
As part of my continuing tribute to Spokane area Veterans, This portrait is to honor my fellow veteran, close personal friend and brother in Christ, Bennett Traylor (Tray).
I met Tray twenty years ago at the Base Chapel at Fairchild Air Force Base after I returned from a deployment.
I’ve continually been impressed with Tray’s willingness to help others, his outgoing personality and cheerful disposition even in adverse situations. I admire him not only for his service to our country, but his ongoing service to our veterans in the community through the VA and also to me personally. This portrait is a small token of my appreciation for all he does! God bless you brother, Tray!

What would you say to a young person considering the military?
It’s the best place to grow up to learn about discipline and responsibility.
