Mexican Independence Heroes

Feliz Dieciséis de Septiembre! Happy 16th of September (Mexican Independence Day)!

Today is the 211th Anniversary of Mexican Independence from Spain on the 16th of September, 1810. Below are portraits of two of the most prominent heroes of that era of Mexican history.

Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla

This is a portrait I made of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, (Also known As El Padre De La Patria “The Father of The Fatherland”) leader of the Mexican war of independence.

“As The Deer Pants . . .”

As The Deer Pants . . Acrylic On Canvas, 24” X 30”

I took a photo of a deer in my backyard a few years ago and had wanted to paint it for quite a while. Even though I mostly work in digital painting I chose to do this one on canvas. I finally got around to it this year and here is the result. This is my first painting of 2021.

I entitled it, “As The Deer Pants . . .” Because it reminds me of the scripture in Psalms that says,

“As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God.”

Psalms 42:1

Happy Veteran’s Day

Thank You, Veterans!

Thank you to all those who have served this great nation of ours!

Those of you who have followed my work may already know that I have an ongoing tribute to veterans. I’ve painted portraits of several of our local veterans from the Korean War, Vietnam War and World War II (See portraits below). I planned on doing some more this year, to continue the series, but, the pandemic slowed things down in that regard. Nevertheless, I’d like to thank these veterans and all of the veterans of our military branches for their service and would like to say that I am personally grateful for the liberty their efforts have afforded us all as a people.

With gratitude,

Antonio Romero

Michael O’Flaherty
Jerry Hood
Madison Palmer Jr.
Bennett Traylor
William Butler

The portraits below were commissioned for a poster by the local VA equal opportunity department. The poster was to include veterans of Pacific Islander heritage. The veterans were all stationed at Fairchild AFB, WA
