Feliz Dieciséis de Septiembre! Happy 16th of September (Mexican Independence Day)!

Today is the 211th Anniversary of Mexican Independence from Spain on the 16th of September, 1810. Below are portraits of two of the most prominent heroes of that era of Mexican history.

Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla

This is a portrait I made of Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla, (Also known As El Padre De La Patria “The Father of The Fatherland”) leader of the Mexican war of independence.

Mis Raíces

A while back I asked my wife Anita to dress up as Frida and pose for me so I could take some photos as a reference for a painting. This portrait is the result. I gave it to her for her birthday. She gave it the title, “Mis Raíces”.

Reading the Word

I painted this portrait of my father-in-law, Chano De la Rosa (May he Rest In Peace) a few month ago, but I wanted to mention him this Father’s Day as a great example of a father, father-in-law, grandfather and a true man of God. It was a common sight to see him reading the Word of God. I know he is rejoicing now with our Heavenly Father!
“Like a father feels compassion for his children— that’s how the LORD feels compassion for those who honor him.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭103:13‬
